Registries for any job involve taking down information about employees or students or graduates and proving that they have the necessary certification to work in a given job. A certified nursing assistant registry is a list of CNAs who are certified to work and it’s an important resource if you want to make sure that the care you receive will be from someone who will be held accountable.

A registry is found in every hospital (private or public), clinic and doctor’s office; anywhere that medical professionals are found. There are also state-wide, province wide and even national registries with more in depth information about medical professionals who are working. The registry contains the first and last name, place of employment, education, certification and proof of registration for every employee in that workplace, including the nursing assistants. It’s an easy way to tell exactly what kind of trained professional you are getting when you go to the hospital for yourself or a loved one.

If you are the certified nursing assistant, then being on the registry is incredibly important if you want to work and it’s simple to do. When you are accepted for a job, you should be asked to fill out some sort of registry proving who you are, what kind of schooling you have and what certification you have. It’s a simple way for people to feel better about the care they are receiving.

Setting up your credentials on the registry is probably the last piece of paperwork you’ll have to fill out as a certified nursing assistant. The nursing assistant registry is an important piece of trust between yourself, your colleagues and of course, your patients. It’s simple, but the registry is very important and should be treated as such, so don’t forget to update and maintain your cna registry information while on the job!

It’s true! Certified nursing assistants, or CNAs, can actually be trained in a variety of settings, depending on where you live, what kind of education you’d prefer and how quickly you wish to be certified. It will also depend largely on your personality; some people may get more out of a non-standard classroom than others when it comes to CNA training. So, as we get into a new semester and graduating high school students are looking towards their future, it may be prudent to look at the many ways which you can be trained as a certified nursing assistant, should you choose to be.

College

The most obvious route is to go to college and learn to become a certified nursing assistant! Classes are found in a variety of colleges and they can be done online or offline. Going to college has some distinct advantages: you can learn with others and under the tutelage of someone who is actually working with you. You get more structure and it’s easier to set things up like your practicum and even work after you’re done school The main problem is cost and scheduling; some colleges are fairly pricey and you will generally have to work under someone else’s schedule unless you do distance education.

Online

Online college courses are becoming more popular as the technology to bring you great education improves. Distance education is generally cheaper than college and you can work under your own schedule. However, you will have to set up your exam and practicum yourself plus you have to be very careful not to be taken in by a scam.

Red Cross

Did you know that you can get CNA training from the Red Cross? It’s true! The Red Cross of America offers CNA training to people across the United States in a cost effective and efficient manner. Arguably, Red Cross was the first to set up a CNA program since CNAs date back to World War I! Red Cross training is faster and more efficient than college and online classes. However, it’s only offered in about 36 cities across the country, so you may have to do some travelling.

Taught Through a Hospital

Unfortunately, this sort of program is less common nowadays, but you can find it in hospitals with staffing issues. Some hospitals offer free CNA training to prospective employees in return for the employees working at the hospital for a period of time after certification. This trade off is hugely beneficial for both parties; the hospital gets employees who are trained on the site and CNA students get free training and a job. Unfortunately, you will probably have to ask around to see if any hospitals are accepting students.

For the most part, you will likely opt for colleges or online courses to get your CNA training, but if you have the opportunity to get training at the Red Cross or your local hospital, then it’s worth looking at. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you can get your cna training courses from a wide range of places and of course to make sure that the course is legitimate and gives you the chance to start on the right foot with your medical training. Good luck!

Keep in mind that since the certification process usually takes less than a year, your pay scale will be lower than someone who went to school for years. There are other factors to take into consideration too, including your level of experience, where you intend to work and what more you have to offer in so far as skills are concerned. This means that these numbers will be a range and on average, but they will give you a good idea if this is where you want to your career to go.

Certified Nursing Assistant Pay Scale by Experience

Experience and seniority play a large role in how much you can expect to be paid as a certified nursing assistant. CNAs who are just starting out make between $8.00 and $10.00 an hour and are often part time or casual. As they move up in experience, CNAs may make as much as $21.00 an hour in overtime and private CNAs can make even more than that because they get money for things like gas to travel from home to home and food.

Annual salaries will range wildly, from about $14,000 a year for new CNAs all the way up to around $46,000 a year for those who have been at it for twenty years or more (on average). Keep in mind that many CNAs move on to become full time nurses or even doctors and many view certified nursing assistant work as a stepping stone.

Certified Nursing Assistant Pay Scale Based on Where You Live

Each state in Americawill have a slightly different starting point and ending point for certified nursing assistants and thus different pay scales. If you’re looking for the best pay, look for work in these states:

Alaska: $14.36/hour

New York: $13.63/hour

Connecticut: $13.54/hour

Massachusetts: $12.77/hour

Worst Paying states to start:

Louisiana: $7.57/hour

Mississippi: $8.16/hour

Oklahoma: $8.62/hour

Arkansas: $8.74/hour

Certified Nursing Assistant Pay Scale Based on What You’re Doing

There are a few different kinds of CNAs out there and your pay will vary based on which one you are. There are CNAs which work in places like hospitals, CNAs who work in private clinics and CNAs who work privately. As a rule of thumb, you tend to make more, the more private you are. Public CNAs tend to make the least and CNAs who work for someone in particular tend to make more.

The certified nursing assistant pay scale may not be wildly thrilling, but it is something to get started on if you want to move on in the medical field or if you are just trying it out for a year or two and aren’t certain what you want to work in. And for many people, the joy of helping others and working with patients is part and parcel of the pay scale, so it’s all up to you. Hopefully this article has helped you sort out how much you can expect to make a certified nursing assistant!

Although the demand for nursing assistants is fairly high inAmericaandCanada, there is still plenty of room for help in finding the ideal job for you. So how can you start successfully on your nursing assistant job search and end with a job in the shortest amount of time?

Using Your Practicum

One of the requirements to become a certified nursing assistant is to complete a certain number of hours in a real world setting-ie, a practicum. Many nursing assistants see the practicum as simply something that must be done to complete their education, but it can be used for far more than that. A practicum can give you contacts, the beginning of a network for job hunting and even a job after you graduate, assuming the place you worked in has need of your services. All of this hinges on the idea that you do a job above and beyond the call of duty and even more importantly that you ask for things like references, advice and a job. A practicum is not just job experience; it’s a chance to meet a new mentor, make contacts and get a good reference, so use it wisely!

Going Beyond the Newspaper

There are still many people who do their job hunting through their local newspaper and this is good up to a point. The newspaper will be more up to date than online postings and you can look for local jobs. However, it may be necessary to broaden your scope beyond that of the paper. Searching online gives you access to a broad database of resources and job opportunities, so long as you ensure that the posting is current. But don’t underestimate the power of your college, practicum, friends and family either; make sure to ask everyone you can about potential job offers! The wider you cast your net, the more likely it is that you will catch something.

Job Centers

Many cities and towns have at least one building devoted to the idea of helping people brush up their resume, learn interview skills and search for jobs. This is a great free resource for anyone who is feeling intimidated by their job search and managing everything that goes with it. Certified nursing assistants can definitely benefit from this resource.

Searching for a job can be stressful and annoying, but use all of your resources and you can have a job faster and be making money again. Good luck!

The certification process is a two part exam which tests you both on your textbook education with a multiple choice exam and on practical applications of your knowledge by testing you in a real world setting. Even when you pass this exam, your work is still not done because you have to be able to renew a certified assistance licence on a regular basis in order to keep it. How do you renew a certified nursing assistance license?

Each state or province is going to have slightly different requirements (At the very least that you are certified to work in that state or province), but there are some overall requirements to keep in mind. First, you must have been working as certified nursing assistant for about 24 months in order to qualify for renewal. If you haven’t been working for over two years, you’ll have to take the exam again.

Assuming you’ve been working for two years, you will have to complete a form set out by the Nurses’ Aid Registry. This form will ask you detail the work you have done and other educational tools you have added to your repertoire. Many states require you to do a certain amount of additional education a year (usually just a class or two) in order to keep your license, so detail this in the form. Your current or a past employer will have to sign off on it and then the package is sent for processing which takes around two weeks.

It’s very important not to let your certification lapse. Not only will you likely have to take the exam again in order to prove that you are still knowledgeable on CNA practices in the workplace (especially the more obscure ones), but workplaces will want an updated certificate from new hires and letting yours lapse may ruin your job search. It’s really not hard to renew your certification and should be done every two years in order to stay on top of things.

In order to renew your certification inCanada, you will have to go through the Canadian Nursing Association and check what steps you need to take.

In theUnited States, you will have to contact your state health board for renewal information.

Very often, you will be sent a package well before your license expires with all the information you need to renew it and you can use this information to get things like exam times (if necessary) and the forms you need filled out in order to prove that you have been working well as a nursing assistant. Renewing your certified nursing assistance license may be a bit of a nuisance, but it’s important if you want to keep working in this field.

Nursing aid jobs are growing in numbers as people are demanding a more personal level of care in places like senior’s homes, children’s hospitals and even in their own homes! Nursing aid jobs may not seem very glamorous or inspiring, but they form the one of the corner stones in medical facilities and a great way to work on strengthening a medical career without going to school for a long time and paying a ton of money-at least not before you are prepared to! What are the benefits of a nursing aid job and how can you get one?

Benefits of Nursing Aid Jobs

A nursing aid, or a certified nursing assistant, is often considered to be the bottom rung of the medical community, but say instead that they are a corner stone. Nursing aids are the frontline runners who deal with the patients on a one-to-one base and get to see much of what happens in a medical facility.

This has amazing advantages. It gives would be nurses and doctors a full appreciation for what happens in the front lines and in the every day life of the patient which should lead to better doctors and nurses. Nursing aid jobs do not require the same level of education as doctors or nurses, so you can get a job faster and easier and then build up from there while making money. And many people prefer nursing aid jobs because they like to work directly with patients and actually see the impact that positive day to day care gives to others.

Nursing aid jobs are definitely best for those with the temperament for it, but it can also function as a perfectly adequate way to learn more about the medical field and determine whether or not you wish to continue on that path.

What You Need to Get Nursing Aid Jobs

In order to try to get a job as a CNA, you’ll need the education, certification and a bit of luck. You can get your nursing assistant education in many colleges online and offline and through here, arrange for your certification exam. We offer you the ability to search for great CNA schools right here, so make sure to take advantage of it.

The certification exam covers both the textbook/lecture and a practical area where you will have to prove that you can do basic procedures. You need to pass this certification exam in order to get the full education and experience you will need to get a job as a CNA.

There is plenty of nursing aid jobs out there, but you will probably have to do some hunting. A good resume with volunteer experience will definitely help as will applying for as much as possible. Remember that becoming a nursing aid may just be a stepping stone to bigger and better things so be confident, have fun and remember to take the opportunities to learn all you can on the job so that you can move up with greater efficiency and enjoy what you’re doing!

While the yearly salary isn’t terribly exciting, you do get plenty of chances to advance and there are some branches of medical assisting which are fairly lucrative.

The fact that the education to become a CNA is not that long also means that while you can work faster, employers won’t feel the need to compensate you as highly as someone who spent years becoming a doctor or nurse. But you can still get a job in a relatively short period of time that certainly pays better than many other jobs with the same training margins.

. This puts you at a nice $1.10/hour more than the federal minimum wage and in line with many of the U.S states’ minimum wages. (the highest being Washington at $8.67/hour). The average salary ends up at about $27,000-$29,000 a year. This is pretty good considering how many people work at minimum wage and how you can get more for less education. In the business world, we would call that a very nice deal!

But within that range of course, you will see some important differences. Depending on what kind of CNA you are, you will see your hourly wage rise or fall. So let’s break that down a little.

Hospital Nursing Assistant

The most common CNA is one which works in a hospital. The average yearly salary here is about $33,000, but you will have to work up to that. Most CNAs start out at around $9.00/hour and have their salary increased as they go.

Long Term Care Aid

Another extremely common type of certified nursing assistant is the long term care aid assistant-one who works in a senior home or nursing home. The average pay here is about $36,000 a year; again, depending on the job experience of the CNA and how much the nursing home has to pay employees.

Nursing Assistant CNA

A nursing assistant CNA is someone who specifically helps a nurse or several nurses in a large hospital. As a result, they can make as much as $41,000 a year, but it takes some effort to get that high.

Other CNAs include: Correctional CNA ($24,000), Certified Nurse Aide CNA ($27,000), CNA Home Health Aide ($21,000, but as you work in homes with clients, you may get perks), and a CNA HHA($23,000). The amount of money you can expect to make will depend greatly on where you work and then how much experience you have.

There is one more major factor in your pay check and that is where you work. If you work in a state with a higher minimum wage, you will probably end up making more. If you work in a private hospital, you may make more than a CNA in a public hospital. Working home to home may also net you a higher wage too, although you may get some of that in perks and benefits, not in cash.

If you decide to become a certified nursing assistant, it is a very good idea to pay attention to where you work and what the salary outlook will be. And you can find a very handy widget to get you started: the school finder right here. Good luck!

For you, they mostly mean some paperwork, fees and waiting around, but background checks are incredibly important for your employer and for patients. What is this procedure so necessary in the life of a nursing assistant?

Employers Demand It

The good news? If your employer does a background check on you, chances are that so long as you’ve been honest, you’re probably hired. The bad news? Be prepared to have many things checked out, including your references, places of employment, criminal record check, driving record, even your credit history! Why is this so important? Those nursing assistants with a criminal record in things like theft and abuse are more likely to steal from and abuse the patients under their care; it’s the repeated offender principle at work. It’s also state regulation; some states simply won’t allow the hiring of some offenders, ranging from things like theft all the way to those with just one misdemeanour! The long and short of it is, be very upfront about yourself, your job history, your education and your references and make sure you kept your nose clean!

Patients’ Peace of Mind

Patients expect their certified nursing assistants to be clean, law abiding citizens, not hooligans. You are building trust with patients who will confide things in you that they may not confide in their doctor. You will be working with these people daily and the only way to make it work is if the patient trusts you. It is implicitly understood that if you work there, you have good standing in the community and the training and education to back up your employment. Background checks ensure that patients don’t even have to think about the qualifications and backgrounds of those caring for them which in turns builds trust and a better reputation for yourself and the place you work in.

The State Requires It

While different states hold their certified nursing assistants to different standards, they all require background checks. Some of them only bar CNAs who have committed crimes like theft and things worse than that. Others though are far tighter and bar CNAs who have a history with harassment, misdemeanors, drunk driving or felonies. This may seem steep, but remember that CNAs work with extremely vulnerable members of society and both the state and facility have to ensure that they won’t be abused or taken advantage of.

While background checks may seem like one long hurdle, they are very important for both CNAs and the people they work for and with. Take heart; if a background check is being done on you and you’ve been honest, you’re probably hired!

But where can you work as a CNA? Some of the answers are pretty obvious, but a few may be more surprising to you.

Common Places to Work as a CNA

There are a few common places to work as a CNA; they are places where you probably did your practical education and the places that are most likely to be looking for employees.

Nursing Homes/Assisted Care Living

Nursing homes, assisted care living places, retirement homes; all places where seniors who can no longer look after themselves completely are very popular places for CNAs to work. This is because a combination of a population boom along with more and more seniors wanting more personal and friendly care to supplement their lifestyle has created a need for nursing assistants. With a continued rise in the numbers of seniors entering homes like these, the demand for nursing assistants remains fairly steady.

Hospitals/Clinics

Another common place for CNAs to find work is in a hospital, clinic or doctor’s office. Nursing assistants in this capacity aid the registered nurses and doctors and do the menial, day to day tasks. There are many nursing assistants working in this capacity and with a rise in medical work and facilities, there will always be a demand for certified nursing assistants. It is likely you will have done your practical education in a hospital as well, making it a good candidate for networking towards work. As a link to hospitals, you could end up working in:

Hospices, helping the terminally ill
Outreach clinics
Urgent Care facility.

These are all branch outs of the same things you’d be doing in a hospital.

Surprising Places to Work as a CNA

Although the majority of people will be working in a hospital or nursing clinic, there are some other places where CNAs are in demand. If working in a hospital or nursing home isn’t for you, check out these alternatives.

Work at Home

Not at your home though; at the home of a client. Some nursing assistants go ‘freelance’ and pick up a few clients who prefer to stay at home, but still need help. Whether it be aiding in medications, doing the shopping, helping with events, or other things, many nursing assistants find that the job working for just a few clients is far more rewarding for them, both personally and financially.

Prisons

Prisons are violent places and so there is a need for medical care. Nursing assistants are most often sent to do things like patch people up, administer vaccinations and other things. It’s not exactly pleasant, but some people will thrive in this environment.

Health Spas

With some spas, massage therapy places and other places where minor work is done on the body and appearance, having a nursing assistant on hand is good insurance in case something goes wrong or someone needs help. Not all massage therapy places or spas hire on CNAs, but it’s worth looking into if you want to work in this sort of place.

With a bit of research, you can turn up all sorts of opportunities to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Remember, the more passionate you are about any job, the better you’ll do in it and working as a nursing assistant is no different. So do a bit of research and find just the right place for you to exercise your skills as a CNA.

But now isn’t the time to slack off-now is the time to prove yourself worthy of being hired, of working in your facility and of greater responsibilities down the road. There are some good ways to continue shining above the rest so that you can keep your job and show that you already for anything they have to throw at you. At this point, developing your skills is extremely important and that’s what you should be concentrating on doing.

1. Get a CNA Mentor

A mentor is invaluable in any job, including working as a certified nursing assistant. A mentor could be another nursing assistant who’s been at the facility for a while or even a full blown nurse who can show you all of the ins and outs of your workplace and help you manage the more difficult aspects that you may not have been prepared for.

2. Ask, Ask, Ask!

It may be hard to get over your initial shyness on the job, but asking questions is extremely important. This way, you can avoid making silly mistakes and constantly refresh the bits of your education that are easy to forget. Don’t be afraid to ask; it takes a moment to get an answer, but it can take days to clean up a mistake.

3. Watch Everything

Paired up with asking is observing. Watch everything that people are doing around you even if it doesn’t exactly fall within your jurisdiction. You never know when some small routine or method of doing something may come in handy later and you can take on more responsibilities as necessary if you know how to handle them.

4. Compare Notes

There is nothing wrong with chatting with your colleagues and comparing notes on things and everything right. Not only can you get rid of some stress by unloading, but you can also ask questions, get opinions, and learn things that you will not have learned in your course. It’s also just nice to have others like you around you for when things get rough!

5. Keep Studying

As part of your certification, you will have to continue with ongoing education in order to maintain your skills, but you should also refer back to your study materials whenever you feel you need refreshing on your skills or on some aspect of your work that you haven’t done in a while. You only stop learning when you’re dead after all!

6. Opportunity Knocks, You Answer

Look upon every experience in your job as an opportunity, no matter distasteful they are. This way you will be more cheerful on the job, more optimistic and you’ll be more open to learning the most you can about your job. This will also show that you are ready to take on any work that is necessary, which always makes you look more favourable in the eyes of others.

It’s important to work as hard on making the most of your job as you worked on your courses and your exam preparation. This extra effort will not only endear you to your patients, but will also make you shine that much more in the eyes of your supervisor and employers, making it more likely you’ll be up for things like raises, promotions and even have the chance at furthering your education and job prospects if you like. Most of all though, it will make the job as a CNA more enjoyable and challenging and ultimately, more fulfilling.
